Editing

Design and Typesetting

Typesetting is a large part of the publishing process, and at Scribe, we utilize publishing systems and develop our own publishing technology to ensure a quick turnaround and error-free texts. Our process begins at the design stage, where we create a template that matches the desired outcome of the title’s final look, before typesetting the finished product into a print PDF format. Producing files with accessibility in mind, your finished print product can easily be converted into the next stage of development (ePDFs and e-books) and even be round-tripped back to Word files.

E-books

We develop the industry’s best, most broadly compatible, accessible, and error-free e-books as a natural extension of the Well-Formed Document Workflow (WFDW). Scribe’s Digital Hub produces multiple formats, including ePub, Web PDF, HTML, accessible PDFs, and even round-tripped Word files. Our e-books are designed from the bottom up to preserve the structure and elements of a book in an electronic format and incorporate them into the printing process rather than as an afterthought. Our e-books are fully accessible, ensuring inclusivity and ease of use for diverse audiences. Our strategies are proven to handle your most complicated titles to produce works that are maximally accessible, navigable, and searchable. Data Conversion, Backlist Renewal

Whether working with previous versions (print, PDF, or some other electronic format) or within our WFDW, Scribe helps you convert your content from one format to the other. We perform OCR, text extractions, or other techniques to bring content into an easily sourced document. Once held as a point document, Scribe’s Digital Hub, our conversion tool, enables publications to be converted into Word files, re-typeset, ePub, XML, HTML, or other output formats. Our approach provides a flawless, durable, and accessible system only found at Scribe.

Scribe Markup Language and Other XMLs

Scribe is well known for our markup language, ScML (Scribe Markup Language), a robust XML that accommodates complex print requirements and seamlessly integrates into the electronic publishing environment. ScML is part of Scribe’s WFDW, which makes working with styles and text-editing tools simple to navigate. With the use of ScML in our Digital Hub, we can quickly convert from one format to another. Additionally, our DTD is publicly available and has been mapped out to many others, including TEI, DocBook, NIMAS, OSIS, USX, and XHTML. Scribe can even develop a customized DTD to your specific needs. Most standards can be automatically derived, enabling us to efficiently adapt your publications to whatever formats your distributor requires.
