Scribe Markup Language (ScML) describes document elements based on their structural function and articulates the relationships among elements.

Paragraph Styles

Book

Book Title: The full book title.
bk1
Book Title Level 1: The book subtitle, one level down from the main book title.
bk2
Book Title Level 2: Two levels down from the book title. If a book has two subtitles, this would be used for the second one. Sometimes book titles include a year as well as an additional descriptive subtitle.

Book Author: The author’s name or the editor’s name.

Book Author Level 1: Lines that support the bkau. This is typically used for the author’s title or affiliation, or it can be used for the phrase “Edited by” or “A Novel by” if this is to appear on its own line before the author’s or editor’s name.

Paragraph First: The first regular (body) paragraph of a chapter, even if it follows an a-head.

Paragraph Section Break: An unornamented paragraph break that represents a new section within a chapter, typically by having space above it and no indent. Note: psec and sec are mutually exclusive.

Paragraph Section Break Level 1: A second-level psec paragraph in case there are two different psec types that have different spacing or indentation.

Paragraph Separation: An unornamented paragraph break, similar to psec, that does not represent a new section within a chapter.

Section Break (Asterisk Break): An ornamented space break (aka asterisk break). If a symbol or asterisks are used to show the start of a new section, then the symbol or asterisks are given the sec style. As with head styles, the paragraph that follows is paft. Note: sec and psec are mutually exclusive.

Math Construction: Applied to MathML markup placed in Word as live text. This is not a valid character style in .scml files, where the contents are converted to markup. Converting to sam or ScML will convert the text to XML markup.
mml:math
MathML: This container is permitted in .sam and .scml files only and allows MathML elements to be included as child elements while still producing a DTD-valid ScML file. All MathML elements included in ScML should include the “mml:” prefix.
